hooray for december

Today I’m back in Tucson..back to doing homework, grading, and stressing about finding a job/graduate school/whatever else there is to stress about.  You know, back to my real life?  I really appreciated the break, but the thing about breaks is that you never do the work you think you will with the free time.  Of course, this makes the break better, but it also makes the days following the break that much worse.  Ah, well.

I forgot to show you the awesome graduation gift Renee brought for me!  I also, incidentally, forgot to give her the gift I brought for her.  smacks forehead I guess I’ll just have to mail it!

Dang, this girl knows me.  She’s not even a knitter!  Outrageous.  I can’t wait to read the book!  I’ve heard so many good things about it.  And the crochet pattern book is adorable!

Look what else followed me home..

I have a sewing machine!  It belonged to Dave’s mom.  Isn’t it lovely?  I can’t wait to try it out.  :oD  His dad also sent me home with a bunch of acrylic yarn, and I have NO idea what to make with it.  I’m thinking afghan, amigurumi, or maybe a sweater for Snake..not that she would wear it

So..I’m sure you’ve noticed that today is the last day of November and the last day of NaBloPoMo.  It’s been fun, but a lot of days, I just don’t have the time to post (and some days, I don’t have anything to post about).  I hope you’ve enjoyed reading me daily this month!  I’ll try to continue posting often.  :oD

unselfish knitting

I’m finally good to bust out the holiday music!! So thrilled. I’ve been hard at work on Christmas presents! (..or at least A Christmas present.) See?

This is a ski cowl for my brother’s girlfriend in her favorite color. I’m not using a pattern, just a basic 88 stitches in the round with 2X2 ribbing on the ends. It’s turning out very nicely. :o)

black friday

Dave and I went shopping all day with Renee!  I didn’t get all of my Christmas presents purchased, but I did make a big dent.  As much as I’d love to knit something for everyone, I just don’t have the time.  Maybe next year?  Anyways, here’s one of the more exotic shopping finds..just weird.

thanks!

I LOVE Thanksgiving.  It’s pretty much the best holiday ever.  We went over to Dave’s aunt’s house, and she cooked us a fantastic dinner!

I’m thankful for family, friends, food, crafts, Snake, graduating next month, and probably about a thousand other things.  I’m also thankful for YOU, lovely blog readers!  I think during November, I’ve gained a few more of you.  :o)  (To be honest..I’m thankful November’s almost over, too!  Blogging daily is kind of exhausting.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

phoenix, arizona

Today we made our way from Tucson to Phoenix to spend Thanksgiving with Dave’s family.  It’s a nice short (hour and a half) drive.  Except it’s really BORING!  We got to the highway a different way than we normally would, though, and we got to drive by the planes they have out at the Air Force base.  Pretty cool, right?  They were filming the second Transformers movie out there a few weeks ago.

It’s nice to be here in Phoenix right now.  It’s all cloudy and overcast..a little chilly, even!  We brought Snake with us, too.  She’s having a fun time running around the backyard and house.  Only I think she’s a little confused now that it’s time for bed and we’re not at home.

I’m really looking forward to tomorrow!  I have a lot to be thankful for this year, and I love the whole family feeling of Thanksgiving.

off the wagon

I went to the LYS today to buy a skein of yarn for a specific project. ONE skein of yarn.  Oops.

About 8.5 oz of pretty pretty fiber followed me home.  I cannot WAIT to spin this up.  I like the natural stuff I’m working on now, but anyone who knows me knows that I am a vivid color freak.  I might have to find another spindle to avoid waiting for my other roving to run out.

Completely unrelated tangent here..I LOVE MY CAMERA!!  Until tonight, I’d never thought about changing the white balance to get better pictures at night.  I do it during the day because sometimes I get funny colors with the direct sunlight.  Check this out, though.  The picture above was taken with a manually set white balance, and the picture below is auto.  It’s not even the worst auto picture I took..I figured that would make the comparison wildly unfair.  Doesn’t the one above look a thousand times better?  It’s certainly more color accurate.  Yay camera options!!

BALLS!

I’m using feltable wool leftovers to make dryer balls!

I might still add another thin layer (I have prettier leftovers lying around).  I really like them!  The only exception is that wet wool smell.  Maybe I should get some essential oil to scent them or something?  If you would like to make your own, I used this tutorial.

They surely have a dual purpose.  Snake is obsessed!  I’m sure they’d make better cat toys than dog toys, though.  They’re not bad juggling balls, either.
